From Rumble to Whisper
Whining of mosquitos, rumble of a waterfall, clattering of a train, murmur of leaves in the wind, an engine working, a boar roaring, a bell ringing, a door slamming – since childhood we float in the wide sea of sounds. Some of them calm us and bring harmony, some are so usual and habitual that we’ve got accustomed not to even notice them. Do you know expressions like “dead silence”, or “listening to the silence”? Do they suit to our current acoustic environment? What does produce the loudest sounds in our region? A tramway, a construction site, a highway? Can we find a quiet nook to hide there in the shade of foliage from the constant acoustic attacks of our everyday life?
The goal of this research project is seeking for the noisiest and the quietest sites in our district. The project members armed with sound level meters will become real pathfinders.
